Deus Ex Cheat Zone, part I: cheatcodes & easter eggs

Enabling cheats for Deus Ex involves editing a game file. Open 'user.ini' in the 'deusex/system' directory with a text editor. (Windows NotePad will do nicely.)

Locate the section marked [Engine.Input] and look for 'T='. After the = type 'Talk' so that your new entry looks like the following:

T=Talk

Save and close 'user.ini' and start Deus Ex.

Once in the game, press T. You will see the following at the bottom of your screen: ')> Say'. Press backspace repeatedly until you are left with only ')>'

Now type 'set DeusEx.JCDentonMale bCheatsEnabled true' and press return to enable cheats. You will need to repeat this last step each time a new level starts.

Alternatively, you can place the line 'bCheatsEnabled true' in the [DeusEx.DeusExGameInfo] section of 'user.ini' to permanently enable cheats.

In NYC you come upon a man in the process of being mugged by two NSF thugs.. they are on a bastketball court. After you finish that business, you can find a bastketball and play! If you get in the net or close to it you''ll start to get messages from the developers.. stuff like "Sign him up for the Knicks!".

Controlled amount of unlimited skill points
Platform: PC

When you talk to Gary Savage at the Sub Base you recieve an augmentation upgrade and 500 skill points. If your inventory is full when you talk to him there, you will only recieve the skill points.

If you talk to him many times with a full inventory you will recieve the skill points every time.

Danceparty
Platform: PC

(cheats must be enabled, but no game needs to be running, i.e. you can do this immediately after the startup of DX) in the credits screen, this time you type "danceparty". Enjoy!

Fly through walls
Platform: PC

Type ''fly'' and you will be able to, type ghost and you can fly through walls, type walk and you are returned to normal. Please note
that in these forms you cannot talk, change weapon or activate switches or pick up items. While you are a ghost, you are invunerable.

Instant Augmentations
Platform: PC

Press 'T' to talk and erase 'Say', leaving only ')>'. Now type 'AugAdd X' where X is one of the following commands:

AugCombat - Combat Strength (Greater Melee Strength - Melee attacks are more damaging)

AugMuscle - Microfibral Muscle (Greater Lifting Strength)

AugBallistic - Ballistic Shield (Protects player from physical projectiles/weapons)

AugShield - Energy Shield (Protects player from energy projectiles/weapons)

AugCloak - Cloak (Concealment from organic entities - guards, soldiers, cops)

AugRadarTrans - Radar Transparency (Concealment from mechanical entities - bots, cameras, turrets etc)

AugHeartlung - Synthetic Heart (Upgrades performance of all augs)

AugPower - Power Recirculator (Reduces power cost of all augmentations)

AugAqualung - Player can swim better

AugHealing - Players healing rate increased

AugEnviro - Environmental Resistance

AugEMP - EMP Shield (Protects player from EMP damage)

AugTarget - Targeting (Provides info on target and increases accuracy)

AugVision - Vision Enhancement (see through walls, night vision etc)

AugDefense - Aggresive Defense System (Protects against missiles and grenades)

AugDrone - Spy Drone (player can launch a drone for reconnaisance, disabling cameras and turrets etc)

AugStealth - Player can run silently

AugSpeed - Player can run faster

Note: these augmentations are added at level 1 and must still be upgraded.

new cheat enable for Deus Ex
Platform: PC

To activate cheatmode add " -hax0r " to the shortcut or command line of the icon for the game( 0 is a zero not an o as in ok ).
Then Edit user.ini in the deusex/system folder and change ''Tilde='' to ''Tilde=type'' (do this for all occurances of ''Tilde=''). Then in the game, press ~ then type any of the listed cheat codes .
Note1: It will no longer be nessassary to type in "set DeusEx.JCDentonMale bCheatsEnabled True" .
Note 2: set DeusEx.JCDentonMale bCheatsEnabled True did not have to have any capital letters
Note 3: With Tilde=type the word "say" does not appear.
Note 4: invisible does not work should be changed to invisible true

No clipping and fly mode
Platform: PC

Fly Mode:
enable cheats in Deus Ex. hit the talk key and delete >'' Say until you just have>''. then type in "fly" (without quotes) to enable fly mode. If you did it right you should get a message on the screen saying "You feel lighter". To deactivate fly mode, type in "walk" (you can''t change or pick up items/weapons in fly mode)

No Clipping:
enable cheats, hit talk key, delete >'' Say until you have just >''. Type in "ghost" (without quotes) to enable no clipping, if you did it right you''ll get a message that says "you feel etheral". to turn of no clipping, type in "walk". (as with fly mode, you can''t change or pick up items/weapons with no clipping mode on)

Power ups

Press 'T' to talk and erase 'Say', leaving only ')>'. Now type one of the following commands:

The Matrix Mode
Platform: PC

Start a new game (or load one).

Then, go to the main menu and select "Credits".

While the credits are playing, blindly type "thereisnospoon". You''ll hear a click for every key you press, but be careful not to make a mistake or you''ll have to start over.

Then go back to your game, and voilà: everything is made up of scrolling green numbers, like in the movie!

The Underworld Internet Oracle
Platform: PC

Your ''computers'' skill needs to be at ''trained'' or better. You can upgrade it at the start of the game or later on using accrued skill points.

Visit Smuggler''s Lair on the second mission. You can get there by taking a downstairs near the subway entrance. You''ll require a password from Jock at the Underworld bar.

After you bypass Smuggler''s booby trap, you''ll enter a room inhabited by Smuggler. Toward the left wall there is a computer terminal.

Activate the terminal and hack into it. Work fast, or your break-in will be detected. One of the messages is in French. Choose the other message.

Old-school tech savvy gamers will notice a parody on the Internet (or Usenet) Oracle of Steve Kinzler fame. (rec.humor.oracle)

"The Oracle Says"

Seems in the dystopic world of 2048, humor is in short supply, and the anonymous old-school oracle system has become a means for the free-thinking underground elite to pass around messages in confidence.

Trey nifty, eh? It''s nice to know the oracle will still demand tribute.

Third Person View
Platform: PC

Press 'T' to talk and erase 'Say', leaving only ')>'. Now type 'behindview 1' to enable third person view mode.

To return to first person mode, type 'behindview 0'.

Unlimited augmentation upgrades
Platform: PC

Make sure you have no room in your inventory, then talk to Jaime Reyes at Tong''s lab, the time he gives you the upgrade.

You will then tell him that you have no room, he will drop the aug upgrade on the ground but he will still have it next time you talk to him.

This is also possible with medkits from the terrorist prisoner in level 4 UNATCO HQ when you break out of prison.

Unlimited Space In Inventory
Platform: PC

1. Open inventory
2. Drag a big item away. do not release mouse button! miportant!
3. Close inventory by pressing I
4. Pick up another item.
5. Laugh at the fact that the game has put the new item underneath the first. move it away to check.

The computer will put items in the first available space, going left then down, so stack in top left corner to avoid useing squares.
unlimitd items may be stacked in one place, but they still need the same amount of squares,
a 4 by 2 gun will need that much space, but can be ontop or under a 2 by 2 weapon, as long as the extra squares are free.
